I HAS COVER ART!
I’ve heard so many horror stories about cover art, about the author getting zero say in it and having to watch their baby get saddled with something inaccurate, poorly executed, catering to the wrong crowd, or just plain ugly, so I’ve been on eggshells waiting for my cover art. Here it is, and it’s beautiful!
Everything on it is story-accurate, down to the cemetery and the character’s clothes. Their faces don’t 100% match my mental image — Damon looks a little doe-eyed for my taste (though my friend Aimee interpreted the expression as sarcastic, which certainly fits) and Naomi’s face shape is a little wrong, but these are tiny nitpicks to have. They asked if I’d rather have the version without the shadow/blur effect but I decided I liked it this way — it lends a sense of drama and hints at the supernatural and the teleporting “shade” power Damon has. One of the things I most liked hearing when I signed on with Astraea Press was that they prided themselves on good cover art with lots of input from the author, and I’m very happy to say they’ve delivered.
(Does it look just a little photoshoppy? Maybe. But certainly no worse than most book covers I see nowadays.)
I still don’t have a release date, but I’m happy things are still lumbering along. It’s possible I’ve set this image as the lock screen on my iPod, so I get to smile at a couple dozen times a day… IT HAS MY NAME ON IT, GUYS. MY VERY OWN NAME ON THE COVER OF A BOOK.
P.S. re: my last post — I did find my flash drive! All is well with the world. 🙂
